“ZOOM” by Jessi was played in an episode of “She Hulk”, to K-pop fans’ surprise.
Marvel also seems to take interest in K-pop as viewers and fans have countless times caught K-pop songs “installed” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) franchise.
Recently, female rapper Jessi made her unexpected appearance in the MCU through the latest Marvel Comics adaptation for streaming service Disney+ called “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law”. The series is joined by Tatiana Maslany who plays the female protagonist Jennifer Walters (also the She-Hulk). It revolves around a single woman lawyer in her 30s who leads a complicated double life as She-Hulk, a green-hued 2-meter tall version of herself.
At present, a 9-episode series is airing on Disney+ from August 18th to October 13th. In the fourth episode, while Jennifer Walters is building a dating profile for her She-Hulk alter ego, Jessi’s latest hit “ZOOM” is played as the protagonist poses for a selfie and takes a look at her potential matches. K-pop fans had a pleasant surprise as many expressed their approval of accurate music choice for the montage.
Jessi’s “ZOOM” was used during one scene from “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law”.
Apart from Jessi’s unexpected indirect appearance, Megan Thee Stallion also made a cameo when she appeared in the first episode as herself and performed a twerk along with She-Hulk. The female artist previously shared about her minor appearance in an interview with the Cut in August.
Going back to Jessi, this is not the first time a K-pop artist is included as a cameo in the MCU. Previously, BLINKs were also taken aback when BLACKPINK’s “As If It’s Your Last” was played in the encounter between The Flash and Batman in the 2017 “Justice League”. PSY and Snoop Dogg’s “Hangover” was turned on when T’Challa arrived at a casino in Busan, Korea in the 2018 “Black Panther”. On the other hand, Jessi is starting her tour around Europe in the beginning of October with her first stop in Berlin on the 8th of next month.
