As the newest co-star of So Ji Sub in “Doctor Lawyer”, actress Im Soo Hyang has a lot of stories to tell.
The newly-released K-drama “Doctor Lawyer” has made a huge impact among drama lovers. Alongside the appearance of famous actor So Ji Sub as the male lead, Im Soo Hyang, who plays the righteous prosecutor Geum Seok Young and So Ji Sub’s girlfriend also contributes greatly to the series. Below are some interesting facts about her:
When it comes to Im Soo Hyang, Korean viewers would think of a late bloomer. The actress made her acting debut in 2009, playing a minor character in the movie “4th Period Mystery”, which stars Kang So Ra and Yoo Seung Ho.
She then debuted on the small screen in the 2011 drama “New Tales of Gisaeng”, where she received some attention from the public. Ever since, she constantly switched up her image via various different roles, and yet was unable to earn a major breakthrough.
Despite starring in numerous works, from “Lovers In Bloom”, “Iris 2”, “Inspiring Generation”, to “Blow Breeze”, Im Soo Hyang remained a relatively unknown name in the Korean acting industry. It was only until she became Cha Eun Woo’s co-star in the 2018 K-drama “My ID is Gangnam Beauty”, did Im Soo Hyang finally managed to earn relevance.
Thanks to this new-earned fame, Im Soo Hyang managed to hit it big with her next work, “Graceful Family”, which aired in 2019. While she remained rather quiet in the next 2 years, the actress has been making a strong return with two back-to-back series, “Woori The Virgin” and “Doctor Lawyer” in 2022.
A special relationship with actor Sung Hoon
If in “Doctor Lawyer”, Im Soo Hyang is the lover of So Ji Sub, then in “Woori The Virgin”, she’s the special person to actor Sung Hoon. However, “Woori The Virgin” isn’t the first time Sung Hoon and Im Soo Hyang work together, seeing that they actually collaborated in 2 other works, including “New Tales of Gisaeng” and “Five Enough”.
But they weren’t just on-screen lovers, and Sung Hoon once confessed on the SBS show “Strong Heart” that he actually developed real feelings for Im Soo Hyang.
“If I and Soo Hyang got the chance to appear here during filming for “New Tales of Gisaeng”, I wouldn’t be able to control my expressions. At the time, I think I often mistook Soo Hyang for her character Sa Ra. Sometimes, I couldn’t even tell them apart. I think I fell for both of them then.”
During the filming period, Sung Hoon once seriously thought about expressing his love for Im Soo Hyang. Unfortunately, after filming ended, his emotions were gone.
Talking about her past, Im Soo Hyang reveals the truth about the Korean entertainment industry
When most people think of the Korean entertainment industry, the aura around famous stars is usually the first thing that comes to mind. But in reality, the Korean entertainment industry is an extremely strict environment. This is a “arena” in which the loser will never be known to the public, while the winner will be put through a series of difficult challenges.
Sharing about the 6-month training period to prepare for the role in “New Tales of Gisaeng”, Im Soo Hyang said that she had to receive a lot of scolding and, at the same time, had to live under terrible pressure:
“The director always says ‘you have no talent’, I get told that all the time and never seem to receive any compliments. More importantly, there were always other actors to replace us if we didn’t do well. They always told us like that. So even if we got it, we can’t rest easy. I used to cry a lot.”
At the present time, Im Soo Hyang now has a certain place for herself in the hearts of the audience. Hopefully, with the two ongoing dramas, “Woori The Virgin” and especially “Doctor Lawyer”, starring So Ji Sub, she will achieve new success.
